With over 40 years of precision engineering experience, Aycliffe Engineering has built a reputation for quality, reliability, and craftsmanship. It has been achieved and maintained over the years by our commitment to investing in the future and passing on our skills, knowledge, and values to the next generation of engineers.

Our apprenticeship programme is at the heart of our commitment. We believe in developing talent from within - giving young people from the region the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside highly skilled professionals and earning while they learn.

"At Aycliffe Engineering, we believe that apprenticeships are more than just training—they are the future of our business."

Supporting Alfie

We are currently supporting Alfie through his Level 3 Engineering Machinist Apprentice. Now in his second year, Alfie is a valued team member, building experience in roles across our operations. He spends one day each week at NC Group, a specialist training provider based just around the corner from us at Aycliffe Business Park.

Alfie’s apprenticeship is a nationally recognised qualification designed to develop the core skills needed in precision engineering. As part of his course, he will learn to set up and operate CNC machines, read and interpret engineering drawings, apply quality control techniques, and use manual and automated machining tools. He will gain a strong understanding of health and safety, precision measurement, and continuous improvement, hold a forklift truck license and be qualified to use overhead cranes. The course provides students with all the essential core skills for a successful career in precision engineering. Alfie will gain the skills and experience to work with the teams in our tyre mould manufacturing, refurbishment and repair services and precision engineering solutions, including CNC milling and turning, engraving, vertical and horizontal boring, surface grinding, and spark erosion.

Having only recently transferred Alfie’s apprenticeship to NC Group, it is already proving to be a great move. Their proximity to our site means better collaboration, easier communication, and increased support for Alfie and our business. We are lucky to be based in Aycliffe Business Park, a thriving hub of innovation and cooperation across its businesses.

We are excited to see how Alfie’s career journey progresses and wish him every success in his apprenticeship.
